Hi! I’m Alex Orfaly.
Former principal timpanist of the San Francisco Symphony. I’ve worked with orchestras around the world. Former positions include being timpanist for the Palau de les Arts in Valencia Spain and the Tucson Symphony. I’ve also been a guest timpanist with orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the LA Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony, the Singapore Symphony and the Radio France Philharmonic.
I’ve performed in the great concert halls across the globe, including Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, Severance Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Konzerthaus Vienna, the Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and the Royal Albert Hall.
Currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I regularly perform with the Sun Valley Symphony, the California Symphony, and the Stockton Symphony. Originally from Boston, I studied timpani and percussion at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and am a former timpani fellow of the New World Symphony.
I’ve had the pleasure of working closely with great performers and teachers such as Paul Yancich, David Herbert, Tim Adams, Tom Freer, and Mr. Cloyd Duff.
